Spybot - Search & Destroy can detect and remove a multitude of adware files and modules from your computer. Version 1.2 adds a variety of new and updated features, including an immunization option that allows you to block many spyware downloads before they get to your computer, and improved detection mechanisms for morphing files.

The release of the latest version of Spybot - Search & Destroy adds some truly useful features to an already excellent app. Not only does Spybot check your system against a comprehensive and timely database of adware and other undesirable system invaders, the new Immunize feature provides a front-line defense against a plethora of uninvited Web-borne flotsam, blocking it before it reaches your computer. Spybot includes a set of incredibly useful tools that complement its basic functionality, including Secure Shredder, for completely destroying files; Hosts File, for blocking adware servers from your computer; and System Startup, which lets you review which apps load when you start your computer. The ugly but functional interface features advanced and easy modes, but it doesn't let you switch between them while it is running. The functionality of Spybot makes it a must-have for all Internet users, and this version is a worthwhile upgrade if you have a previous install.

I have updated my Spybot to version 1.3. It is a beta, but I haven’t noticed any visible bugs ever since. What’s more, the program now works much faster (3 minutes against 10 in the past). Unlike many antispyware utilities, it “takes advantage of the fact that all spies have to anchor themselves at a few places over the system to get active. It starts to search at these places, following the information gathered there to catch the whole spy.” Spybot 1.3 also features several improvements in the interface. The scan results are now arranged in a tree that groups found entries. The sliding panel allows instantly see the information about a selected item and decide whether you should kill it or no. The new version surely merits a try.
