PalTalk is an Internet audio/video chat client offering a wide range of features that allow users to communicate with each other anywhere in the world, at any time, in any mode--all for free. PalTalk 5.1 now interoperates with AOL, ICQ, and Yahoo so that you can see all your buddies using a single program. With PalTalk you can make free long-distance calls anywhere in the world to anyone with a PC and a connection to the Internet. Users can join thousands of existing audio chat rooms or create and administer their own groups to bring together other PalTalk users with similar interests. Use PalTalk to see up to six friends simultaneously with the group video-conferencing feature. If you want to chat without the video or voice features, you can use the PalTalk instant message feature for real-time text chat. PalTalk also lets you share files with other Paltalk users with the file transfer feature. Finally, PalTalk now includes 24-hour online help.

This instant messenger lets you create audio, video, or text chat rooms, or simply chat one-on-one. Paltalk lets you test your sound card, Web camera, and network connection. Adult chat rooms are hidden by default, and parental controls employ a password to change settings or block certain groups (both "R Groups" and "A Groups" are adult content). Even if you don't have a fast Internet connection, you may still find the program's integration of basic messaging services AOL, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo useful for contacting all your buddies via one messenger. You can also call your friends PC-to-PC for free. However, your friends must join the Paltalk network before you can add them to your buddy list, and they may balk at filling out the registration form, which requires all fields. If you have chatty friends scattered across various networks, Paltalk might be worth your time.
