"This is not a game this is a social network."
Pros: Perhaps one of the best ways to social network on the net. Allows for group activity and conferencing. You can do things with those you chat with. A great place to explore. SL is truly a "virtual world".
Cons: There are some problems with the technical working of this system, thou these have been improving, SL is well worth putting up with these sometimes annoying minor glitches. An advanced graphics PC would be best, low end machines may have difficulties with SL. If your easily offended you better enable the parental controls on this virtual world.

"Bandwidth greedy and flaky, but unquestionably a great game"
Pros: Really open ended other world where you can do so many things, including designing and making your own stuff. You can play for free, too, and there are tons of free in-game items including clothes, vehicles, monster suits, and even houses.
Fly and teleport from day one.
Cons: Requires HUGE bandwidth and suffers from lag even if it gets it. If you are not on unlimited download account you will use your month's allowance in a week. Login problems frequent, things going wrong in-world almost constantly. DON'T assume it is you, it really is them.

"Great, if very unstable, game"
Pros: Constant crashing, constant lag, every week, wednesday usually being the day of choice, there are updates to the software. Downtime for this is usually from 7am to 12am PST. Game is having problems right now, visit secondlife.com, click on blog tab and read. Inventory fluctuates on a "as logged in" basis, losing or gaining anywhere from 1 - 2000 items each time. If you can't find it this time you might if you logout and come back on. Lag....the more people on the less you can move around, anywhere, even if you teleport to a "low lag" sim. Linden Labs seems more intent on providing updates before correcting earlier or already existing problems. Or, old errors that were "fixed" appear again after an update.
Cons: It is a very sophisticated game, I love it and I am addicted to playing, but as of last night I am NO LONGER A PAYING MEMBER. Tired of it. When it runs better and this means without crashing and constant downtime, will become a paying member again.
