A decent program.

Pros: avast! is low on memory usage and offers a good variety of options for both novice and advanced users to choose from. What I liked most was that avast! offers rookit and spyware (some) detection in addition to virus scanning.

What amazed me was that avast! offers more "shields" than any other AV program. Maybe not shields, but a decent security add-on.

avast! promoted it's product with the "Animation vs. Animator 2" which was well done with Flash. Pretty Good.

Cons: First time users may have a hard time finding their way. avast! should have a modern GUI.

Blaster Upgraded +

Pros: What caught my attention of v.4.1 was the slick design, compared to SpywareBlaster 3.5.1. It had that Vista Aero feeling.

When I ran it, it was much faster than it's predecessor v.4.0

SpywareBlaster provides a good comprehension of what it's blocking and where it is blocking. It adds killbits where disables malicious Active-X's and ads from intervening.

Overall, SpywareBlaster is a great arsenal to your collection. It does not run in the background, but just one click and the protection is activated permanent.

Cons: Integrated support for Opera browsers.

A future idea would be something of a "real-time" protection and a "network shield". ;)

One of the popular ones.

Pros: AVG offers good anti-virus/spyware program, but I find it's resource usage overwhelming. The 'avgrsx.exe' process uses 52MB on a P4 processor with just half an hour of usage. It offers a good scanning tool both system and web.

Cons: The Linkscanner "slows" down search engine browsing as it takes 10-20 seconds to scan. AVG 8.0 found false positives in the past, which was the Immunization keys of SpywareBlaster and Spybot-SD.

AVG's LinkScanner is also vulnerable to a DoS attack.
