Avast Professional Edition skillfully scans your PC and several programs for viruses, although configuring it is not for the faint of heart.
Immediately after installation, the program asks if you want to schedule an antivirus scan of your local hard drives at system start. You'll notice two icons in your system tray after installing Avast: one to configure the functions and another to activate the virus recovery database. Well-designed, Avast scans executables, inbound and outbound e-mails, and P2P programs such as Kazaa, Limewire, and Morpheus. Instant messages received from several messenger programs are inspected for harmful viruses as well. The program was able to block URLs and common file operations such as renaming and deleting. We appreciated the sensitivity adjusters to get protection to desired levels including normal, high, or customized.
We must say this application did slow down our system while surfing and using other programs. Many of its configurations require intermediate know-how or better. Fortunately, it has a generous 60-day trial. Don't let the steep learning curve turn you off; Avast safeguards your system at optimum levels.

Pros: Avast professional is better than it's free edition.Very good detection of virus, worms and trojans and the removal is effective.Updates daily.
Cons: Interface is not good.Hides many options and makes it hard to use.Realtime protection needs to be better.Dosen't have the west coast check.

"True, It's Free & Very Good, But Also Annoying"
Pros: Functionally, there is NOTHING wrong with this antivirus program, plus it's free. It will get the job done. You should get this if you have no antivirus software.
Cons: ANNOYANCES GALORE! First of all, you have to register (for free), but it takes a good while, is done thru email, and only lasts 14 months as I recall. Ouch. But it's still free.
Also, it just doesn't stop! It auto-starts, which most users may want, but NOT ME. Hey, program! Do what I say, not what you feel like doing! I even took it out of my startup programs list using a few different methods, and somehow it still auto-started. Plus I have to exit it through the task manager. Basically, I leave this program uninstalled, and only install it if I feel I may have a virus.
But... it is still free & effective, so I use it.

Version: Avast Professional Edition 4.7.942
Pros: I tried to download Zone Alarm Firewall from PC world to see if it would work with Vista, (that I no longer have installed!)as soon as the download started, it detected a Virus! I stopped the download. How many people download programs and not know there's a virus attached? This program is WONDERFUL!
Cons: There isn't one thing I don't like about this program.
