GreenPrint World is a free version of GreenPrint software for home users worldwide. GreenPrint solves a problem nearly every computer user has experienced: The wasteful pages that seem only to appear after a document has been printed (for example, pages with just a URL, banner ad, legal jargon, or a run-over Excel column). GreenPrint does this by analyzing the document and then highlighting and removing unnecessary pages. GreenPrint also incorporates an easy to use PDF writer, a print preview called GreenView, and a reporting feature, which keeps track of the number of pages, trees, and money saved.
Version 1.1 adds a "Buy Green" menu.

- "Make mincemeat of extraneous printouts"
GreenPrint World is a free Windows utility that helps eliminate wasted pages while printing. Installation takes some time, and the software requires Visual C 2005, which is included if necessary. GreenPrint will also put four new programs into your Windows start-up menu, add a browser helper object for Internet Explorer, and add three printers (GreenPrint PDF, GreenPrint MailPDF, and GreenPrint). During installation, GreenPrint will ask you to select a default printer, but the printer can be easily changed later from the GreenPrint interface.
After installation, you can print from any application to GreenPrint, which will automatically remove pages from your printout based on rules like "completely blank pages" "pages with an image only," or "Pages 95% blank with less than 5 lines of text," and then pass along your document to your printer with the unnecessary pages removed. Double-clicking on any page removes it from the print job; double-clicking adds the page back.
The app keeps a running tally of ink and paper saved and greenhouse gas emissions reduced through regular use. It also lets you create PDF files or e-mail PDFs directly with the printer's GreenPrint PDF and GreenPrint MailPDF, respectively.
Printing from Excel sometimes created a Microsoft Document Imaging (MDI) format file to be saved locally instead of sending the document to the printer, but we didn't find any other major bugs. The version 1.1 update adds a "Buy Green" drop-down menu to the interface. It provides recommendations for products in nine categories, such as paper, ink, software, and technology recycling.

Pros: Allows preview of printing jobs for any program. Conversion to PDF is easier.
Cons: Makes your job slow, as everytime it takes few seconds to process the print job and show you the preview. Anybody who cares for environment would print preview his job before printing and hence, the program has very little utility.

"great product / does exactly what it says"
Pros: works flawlessly on our wireless setup between all of our laptops and the printer. this product gives us the ability to do a little more toward greener living. it also saves money by eliminating pages and images not needed when printing. this can be done automatically or manually.
Cons: the preview of the pages takes a couple of seconds to complete but still very easy to use.

"Great. Easy interface, does what it says."
Pros: Auto print preview. You can bypass it if you like. Actually does give the capability to weed out unwanted stuff (use whatever vernacular you choose; you know what I mean; ads, mostly).
Cons: Still thinking. Got it. I don't like software that has things I don't like, particularly when it's free.
