Publisher's description of Hogwasher
From Asar:Hogwasher is the Mac newsreader offering 'Virtual News Servers,' the ability to combine articles across multiple servers, thus saving you time and money. Hogwasher sets the standard for Mac newsreaders in both ease of use and power.
Both Text and Binary users will appreciate Hogwasher s clean, modern, Mac-centered interface, its extensive online Help, and its powerful Usenet-taming features. And Outlook Express users will appreciate its optional multi-pane interface. Hogwasher functions equally well as an online or an offline newsreader and it has an integrated email client. It works natively with OS X as well as with previous Mac OS's, and handles all common encodings including yEnc. Other features include powerful filtering, scheduled automatic connections, thread tree display, and batch binary posting.
Version 4.1.1 adds inline searching (restrict list to show only those articles with search string in subject, author, headers, or body).

Version: Hogwasher 4.1.1
"Fairly good but hangs sometimes"
Pros: Broad range of functions. More or less flexible and intuitive.
Cons: Hangs up sometimes when sorting large newsgroups. There are options to sort on author, subject, number of lines etc. Sometimes when I sort a newsgroup on a particular field it goes into an infinite loop or something. When I choose a different field it's fine. This has happened to me on author, subject and number of lines fields at various times. As I'm typing this, it has been trying to sort a newsgroup by subject for the last ten minutes and I have a top of the line machine and a registered version of the software.

Version: Hogwasher 4.1.1
Cons: What a horrid, unintuitive interface!
I was looking for something new now that Thoth is unsupported. I was always wary of Hogwasher just because of the cost. Now I see that the "pig in a poke" isn't worth buying. I wouldn't use it if it was freeware. It's that horrible! Where are the keyboard shortcuts?
Oh, it works just fine... I guess. But the interface truly is bad.

Version: Hogwasher 4.1.1
Pros: This product has improved terrifically since I started using it at v.3.0. It supports everything I need in a newsreader, plus it's stable, attractive, fully featured and the tech support is very responsive. It's a wonderful offline reader.
Cons: It seems to be missing only one thing that I use regularly in a news reader - the ability to set a default to download all posts in selected newsgroups. This can be done by setting up a filter, but it's a second procedure you have to do yourself.

Version: Hogwasher 4.1.1
Summary: After Thoth went away, I was looking for a better newsreader. Hogwasher is it. Easy to use and versatile. Handles binaries with ease, also multiple servers and identities. Highly recommended for Mac Usenet users.
