From its start as a post-Napster clone to its leading role as the quintessential Gnutella client, LimeWire has been one of the highest-profile P2P applications for Mac. The latest version further ups the ante with a combination of new features, an updated interface, and better all-around performance.
On the surface, the refined and zippier Java interface houses some snazzy new icons and a few new features, including a connection-quality meter and a button matrix for zeroing in on specific file types. The search interface now sports a progress bar, and file information--such as artist and album--is more clearly displayed. The improved network performance gave us considerably more search results than previous versions and a more reliable downloading experience (for a P2P client, that is). This latest version also feels more nimble despite its inherently resource-heavy Java-based foundation. We like the What's New feature, which lists files recently added to the network. The check box to filter out adult content also is a nice touch.
The new features and overall functionality make this by far the most mature version of LimeWire to date. Despite the typical performance flaws found in all file-sharing clients, this latest version continues to offer solid performance and good looks across the board.

"I would only recommend it for downloading music only."
Pros: It's great for music downloads !
Cons: There is a lot of viruses if you download software or DVD's , it's not a safe place for doing this. For DVD downloading I would recommend ilovetorrents , it is alot safer and the quality is pretty good!

"Briliant tool and program shame about the Hiccups"
Pros: I found it to be easilly accessible useable and of course it's Free!!
Cons: Getting too many objects or items that were empty folders , needed a password too open and use also a fair share of Spyware and a couple of Viruses.
Summary: All in all I was happy with this program even with the Spyware or viruses attatched to some of the downloaded media.Any way I have Uninstalled it on my page and Installed "Frostwire" to try it out so far so good but similar problemsare starting to o... read more >>

"LimeWire should restrict some content!"
Pros: Interesting concept.
Cons: I guess I didn't understand what I was walking into when I downloaded the program. Much of the video and pictures seem to be focused on porn. Some of which is pretty hardcore.
Summary: Some of the material accessible through LimeWire should not be accessible to minors. In some cases, it is potentially illegal (potential kiddie porn and involuntary acts of sex (rape)). I'm sure this was not the intent of the original designers, b... read more >>
