Publisher's description of SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 2.5.1008.21
SmartFTP allows you to transfer files across the Internet. It features an Explorer-like, customizable interface and supports drag-and-drop functions. Multiple FTP connections can be opened at the same time, and you can copy files from one remote host to another (FXP). Remote-host directory information is cached for future viewing, and FTP URLs are supported. Other features include a Favorites list; the ability to resume broken downloads; a global history; background transfers; proxy support; a passive transfer mode; and the ability to perform recursive downloads, uploads, and deletes.
Version 2.5.1008.21 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, and bug fixes.

- "Nothing dumb about SmartFTP"
This powerhouse FTP client takes some getting used to, but you'll be glad you gave it a chance. Don't be alarmed by the cramped, multipane Windows Explorer-like interface; you can customize the toolbars and windowpanes however you like.
With the Local Browser window visible, SmartFTP supports drag-and-drop transfers like those on basic FTP clients. But its real power lies deeper within its option menus, where you'll find CHMOD remote file-attribute modification, background file transfers, multiple FTP connections, passive-mode transfers, site-to-site transfers (FXP), and connections via proxy or SSL. Using the Global Queue window, you even can schedule downloads or uploads to more than one server.
SmartFTP may overwhelm beginners, but it's a natural for intermediates and up.

Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 2.5.1008.21
"That's it. I've had enough of your forced expiration nonsense."
Pros: It's an FTP client. It does that just fine. . .
Cons: . . .BUT, these continual and frequent forced expirations of perfectly functional software just so you can push out endless, tiny and inconsequential bug fixes and tweaks is nothing less than the biggest bug of all. I downloaded this update just so I can get today's uploads done and get my account info out, then I'm deleting this pig for good. The software was good enough, but the conduct of your company in this respect is downright shortsighted and stupid.
It's just an FTP client! Couldn't you just let it do it's job, and maybe remind us when bug fixes were available?

"One of the best FTP clients available!"
Pros: The ability to simultaneously manage favorite FTP profiles is great. I also like the advanced CHMOD options and extra utilities that the program has, such as the Speed graph and action log.
Cons: I frequently found that some commands are hard to find. My biggest annoyance however was the expiration notice that would always interfere in the program's launch; you would have to play "cat and mouse" by clicking OK dozens of times before the program would actually load.
If it's meant to be a friendly reminder, make it only appear once! We don't need a constant reminder that updates are available. I suggest in their next release, that this expiration notice "feature" be modified to give the user the following options:
1) Ignore the notice and run the program.
2) Go to the download page where the user can download the newest version.
3) Remind the user again in a set time (eg. two weeks, a month, or never again), then resume to load the program.
Yes, it is a free trial version of the software, but the persistence of refusing to load the program while displaying an expiration notice is unacceptable. Other trial software only display a similar reminder once, and then resume to load the program. Why SmartSoft has chosen to command SmartFTP to behave this way is beyond me. Not a very "smart" decision I must say.
