SmartFTP allows you to transfer files across the Internet. It features an Explorer-like, customizable interface and supports drag-and-drop functions. Multiple FTP connections can be opened at the same time, and you can copy files from one remote host to another (FXP). Remote-host directory information is cached for future viewing, and FTP URLs are supported. Other features include a Favorites list; the ability to resume broken downloads; a global history; background transfers; proxy support; a passive transfer mode; and the ability to perform recursive downloads, uploads, and deletes.

Version 2.5.1008.22 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, and bug fixes.

• "Nothing dumb about SmartFTP"

This powerhouse FTP client takes some getting used to, but you'll be glad you gave it a chance. Don't be alarmed by the cramped, multipane Windows Explorer-like interface; you can customize the toolbars and windowpanes however you like.

With the Local Browser window visible, SmartFTP supports drag-and-drop transfers like those on basic FTP clients. But its real power lies deeper within its option menus, where you'll find CHMOD remote file-attribute modification, background file transfers, multiple FTP connections, passive-mode transfers, site-to-site transfers (FXP), and connections via proxy or SSL. Using the Global Queue window, you even can schedule downloads or uploads to more than one server.

SmartFTP may overwhelm beginners, but it's a natural for intermediates and up.

  "pain on the ass to keep upgrading it"

  Pros: If this program is free, let me keep an older version if that's what I want. Everytime there is a new version the FTP program won't work unless I donwload a new one. Sometimes it won't install and just plain NOTHING happens... in win-xp.

  Then I have to UNINSTALL everything and lose all my settings and then re install the new version and go through all the setups that takes me an hour again.

  Do us a favor, if it's free, take the damn time limit and all the upgrade nonesense off. If someone wants to upgrade, then let them.

  Am using it as a personal website manager and NOTHING to do with commercial use. So, why should I buy it?

  The program works well, but getting more complicated for a simple use. The que don't works worth a **** and better off just drag the file over the website space and make a transfer.

  Most of us just want a SIMPLE program and not interested in 95% of your bells and chrome knobs on this program.

  Why don;t you strip all those none usable things off and let us have a SIMPLE transfer program.

  I've been using this software for years and I loved the early edition. I don't think this is too much to ask, is it?

  Cons: See above problems.

  Get rid of all these 'upgrade' **** and let us use it without crippling it everytime you upgrade this program.

  most of the features ... 95% is not used...EVER!

  What some of us need is a SIMPLE transfer... drag and drop.

  The "que" function is a bust. It don't work at all. Tried it for years and gave up.

  It's useless!

  There are other things you added over the years made this nice easy program a pain on the ass to use.

  "files missing data"

  Pros: This software is really easy to use, and a very powerful FTP client program.

  Used smartFTP all the time until I upgraded and now have problems uploading.

  Cons: At first I had no problem with smartFTP it was great.

  Now my files are missing data, especially when I upload web files, the tables will be all wrong, layout will be a shambles.

  When I upload the files through the web ftp client from my hosting company, there isn't any problems.

  Unfortunately I don't use smartFTP anymore because of this flaw. Don't know if it's just me. Would like to hear from other people regarding this.
