Publisher's description of SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 3.0.1018.3
SmartFTP allows you to transfer files across the Internet. It features an Explorer-like, customizable interface and supports drag-and-drop functions. Multiple FTP connections can be opened at the same time, and you can copy files from one remote host to another (FXP). Remote-host directory information is cached for future viewing, and FTP URLs are supported. Other features include a Favorites list; the ability to resume broken downloads; a global history; background transfers; proxy support; a passive transfer mode; and the ability to perform recursive downloads, uploads, and deletes.
Version 3.0.1018.3 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.

- "Nothing dumb about SmartFTP"
This powerhouse FTP client takes some getting used to, but you'll be glad you gave it a chance. Don't be alarmed by the cramped, multipane Windows Explorer-like interface; you can customize the toolbars and windowpanes however you like.
With the Local Browser window visible, SmartFTP supports drag-and-drop transfers like those on basic FTP clients. But its real power lies deeper within its option menus, where you'll find CHMOD remote file-attribute modification, background file transfers, multiple FTP connections, passive-mode transfers, site-to-site transfers (FXP), and connections via proxy or SSL. Using the Global Queue window, you even can schedule downloads or uploads to more than one server.
SmartFTP may overwhelm beginners, but it's a natural for intermediates and up.

Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 3.0.1018.3
Pros: Without any doubts, this FTP is very good. I specially liked the Que transfer, the transfer between server folders and many other features.
Cons: Without any warning, without any consideration for the non commercial users, without any offer, it became commercial to everybody.
It's their right, though done in a very rude fashion. But it is also or right as consumers not to use the FTP anymore nor pay their full price instead of a reduced loyalty price that many of us might have considered fair to pay.

Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 3.0.1018.3
"free for years, no longer and no warning given"
Pros: i used to love smartftp. used to.
Cons: after being free for years without warning they start charging and expire your copy in TWO DAYS! i have no beef if they want to charge now, but they should warn you of that on the Purchase page. when i posted my displeasure on their forums, they deleted the whole post! i guess they don't want my money. screw them.

"Nice program, but became commercial"
Pros: Nice, efficient, synchronised navigation
Cons: Comparing directories missing
Used to be free, no more, so I change to a free program...

Version: SmartFTP Client (32-bit) 3.0.1018.3
"Was once great, now not so much..."
Pros: I used to be a fan...
Cons: Imagine if Mozilla up and remotely disabled your copy of Firefox 2.0, told you to upgrade to 3.0, then after it was all said and done told you to pay up or it was going to shut itself off in a couple day.
That pretty much sums up what SmartFTP just did with their client.
The fact that they're deleting threads about it in their support forum says everything I need to hear. Buh Bye!
