Publisher's description of The GIMP 2.2.11
From Gimp:GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a freely distributed piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring. It is a powerful piece of software with capabilities not found in any other free software product. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert-quality photo-retouching program, an online batch-processing system, a mass production image renderer, or an image-format converter. GIMP is modular, expandable, and extensible. It is designed to be augmented with plug-ins and extensions to do just about anything. The advanced scripting interface allows everything from the simplest task to the most complex image-manipulation procedures to be easily scripted. Version 2.2.11 is a bug-fixing release.
Note: You will need to download both GTK+ Runtime Environment and The Gimp installers. Install GTK+ before installing The Gimp.

Version: The GIMP 2.2.11
"Tricky learning curve, bad help system, great program"
Pros: Very versatile, powerful program. Runs fast on my machine. Installed without a hitch.
Cons: Installing the help file was a bit tricky. I think this should be part of the full program.

Version: The GIMP 2.2.11
"Excellent product, more features than most novice users will ever need"
Pros: Very simular to another photo edit program, except it's free. Like my other more exspensive software, it's slow & ocassionally freezes on my p4, 256 ram, 6 year old computer. If your computer is fairly small, there are other lighter, faster, easier to use editing programs out there that do nearly everything this does at a much quicker pace.
Cons: Somewhat time consuming to install, need to install other files from other web sights, dual windows for one photo(??), a little slow at times.

Version: The GIMP 2.2.11
Pros: The Gimp is perfect if you just want to edit something quickly or if you are serious about your digital art. It has the ability to be a simple paint program, for the inexperienced (like me).
At first it looks like a daunting program, with several buttons with no explaination, but things fall into place quickly, and you'll find yourself playing around for longer than expected, and actually accomplishing something. Also, the publishers site has several tutorials that are easy to understand if you want to learn how to do something.
