Publisher's description of X-RayPC

From XBlock.com Privacy Software:

X-RayPC is a systems-management tool with a built-in expert system. No external runtimes, DLLs, or libraries are required, and no installation is needed. The program makes complete analyses in seconds. It lists active processes, autostart programs, and BHOs; downloads program files; has plug-ins for IE extensions; shows the file size and MD5 of all files instantly; shows which items are "good," "bad," or "unknown"; and has an integrated file uploader. It includes integrated deactivation and removal of an item or file, and it can kill running processes, delete in-use files (after reboot), detect hundreds of "bad" programs, and export the log file in text, Excel, and HJT-compatible formats.

Although this program won't replace a full-blown antispyware utility and suffers from some performance problems, it has enough pluses to make it a worthy download. X-RayPC doesn't require installation; the application opens automatically once you click the EXE found in the downloadable ZIP file. Upon launch, the program automatically generates a list of processes, browser helper objects, start-up items, and toolbars installed on your PC. We appreciate that the app categorizes found entries as helpful or harmful, but in some tests, it classified the majority of items as undetermined. Also, though X-RayPC managed to find and remove a number of the adware apps we installed for testing purposes, it failed to detect several well-known and especially pesky malware components. The rather bland interface is easy enough to understand, but we wish it let you delete multiple items at once. Despite its issues, this program is totally free, which means users concerned about spyware might at least add it to their arsenals of tools.
