Editor's review

Like R. Kelly, Jah Free contrasts the silkiness of his sound with the frankness of his words; on hit "The One," he tells the groupies that he likes them a little bit, but not enough. (Honesty is the best policy, it seems.) The Californian has lit on a strong club-pop formula.

Biography

Warner Bros/ DreamHouse records artist, Jah-Free is on a mission to become a household name in this already over-populated music game. The West Covina, CA native is no stranger to music business already tasting success in the Golden State. Jah-Free took a liking to music at an early age which began in the choir and local talent shows. ” I started doing music from as long as I can remember, once I started taking myself serious and writing my own music, I hooked up with producers trying to get a demo out since the age of 16. “I backpacked and skate boarded anywhere I could be heard. I eventually linked up with some good producers and now I’m here.” The hard work paid off and Jah-Free received his first break when he linked up with West Coast producer Fingazz who has produced several songs for West Caost rappers such as Kurupt, Mr. Capone and MC Eiht to name a few. The result was a record called “Tonight.” The record eventually landed in the hands of legendary West Coast DJ, Felli Fell. “I was a home town hero for a minute in West Covina but it was the time for me to start making noise and branching out. DJ Felli loved the record over at Power 106 and blew it out the water.” says Jah-Free. The success of “Tonight” started a bidding war between record labels and Jah- Free signed with Warner Bros/Dream House. Jah-Free continued to nurture his relationship with Fingers and the latest result is his brand new single, “The One.” already in rotation on urban radio out West and will be available via iTunes on 9/2. “I’ve been working with Fingers for the past 4 or 5 years. We started collabing and we really clicked. I just showed him that I was about it. We got in the lab, and the song we originally planned on selling to another artist cause I’m a writer also. Then we started listening to the record and decided it was a heater, so we kept it.” says Jah-Free. With years of putting in work under his belt, a full length release hitting stores in Spring of ‘09 and a strong foundation around him, Jah-Free remains confident but humble about his future. When asked how he wants to be remembered in the music business, Jah-Free replies “”I want to be remembered as a real artist. Not someone who comes and goes, I definitely want to take it till the wheels fall off. I’ve been through a lot, but I think that it’s all in the process of something bigger and better to come.”
