Publisher's description of mIRC 6.16
mIRC is an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) program for Windows. Just as you need a browser to surf the Web, you need an IRC client to chat. mIRC is highly configurable and perfectly stable and has a lot of goodies hidden inside. It offers multiserver support, full color control, DCC-file sending and Get capabilities, aliases, remote command- and events-handling capabilities, scripting, place-sensitive programmable pop-up menus, and Web and sound support. Most importantly, to use mIRC you don't have to understand anything of the above. Simply install it and chat away. mIRC is shareware and can be downloaded freely and evaluated for 30 days. If you enjoy mIRC, please register your copy. Your registration licenses you to use your copy and helps support our continued work.

- "Get more chat with mIRC"
Internet Relay Chat is not as well-known as ICQ, even though it successfully combines chat and messaging without annoying ads. The IRC network is a virtual meeting place where people from all over the world can meet and talk. With mIRC, you can choose from an unlimited number of existing chat rooms based on personal interests, or you can create your own channels with family and friends. IRC is more advanced than simple messenging, so it may take a while to get started. With a bit of browsing, though, you'll find that the mIRC interface allows easy access to IRC features. It guides you through the initial stages, including selecting from a wide list of servers. You can connect to more than one IRC server at once and chat through proxy. By creating your own channel, you can even set up a virtual meeting with colleagues. This program suits advanced users keen to expand their chat-client functionalities. For first-time users, mIRC offers the most functionality of any chat program available, which can be overwhelming at first--but if you read the help files you'll be on your way to using all the features mIRC has to offer.

Version: mIRC 6.16
Pros: Its like a java chat program, that does not require annoying java, and does not use much bandwith.
The program has differnt servers, and chat rooms on each server, for example oz.org and aussie.net are the main 2 aussie ones.
You can make alot of new friends from all over the world.
Cons: Its addictive hehe.

"The only program people know for the IRC chat network"
Pros: Widely known and respected program name.
Trial lasts 30 days, however after 30 days you can still use the program freely, but not without a window nagging you about an expired trial.
Since it has been around for quite some time, you can find a plethora of plugins out on the internet.
Cons: A security liability. Since this is the most widely used client for IRC, spammers on the network will prey on users by spamming them with malicious code which can harm mIRC's performance with ease.
After 30 trial is over, program nags you about buying it.

Version: mIRC 6.16
"Good IRC chat... but highly complicated"
Pros: Basically, the only good IRC chat unfortunatly. You would swear that IRC was designed around this program. With features out the door, this gives you everything you need if you want to chat on IRC. Pretty much the golden standard using IRC too. With enough options to customize it for you, this is the only program you want if you want IRC, whether you're a beginner or expert.
Cons: Heavily confusing and cluttered. Designed for experts too, it may put some newer people off. And it's just plain ugly. No real design or nice layout, absolutly no themes. This is meant to get serious. Reminds me of the old DOS prompt. (Unfortunatly, programs such as Trillian don't offer the ease of use and features that mIRC does. Shame.)
Basically, the only program to use for IRC. However cluttered and ugly, it does what it says it does.
